About Alex Maskara

Alex Maskara is the pen name of a Lubao kid.

Born in Sto. Tomas Lubao Pampanga in 1962, his education was all in public schools. Alex finished elementary at Lubao Central Elementary School, San Nicolas 1st, Lubao. He finished highschool at Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades, Bacolor Pampanga. He obtained a degree in Physical Therapy at University of the Philippines, Manila. After two years working as a Clinical Instructor in TALA under Philippine Leprosy Mission, he was hired as a Physical Therapist in the US. He became an American citizen in 2002.

Alex Maskara has written essays, short stories, novels in English. His novels are mostly about struggles in Manila during his college years in there (1980's). His writings tend to sway towards gay issues. He loves to write about barrio life, based on his childhood in Lubao. He still limits himself to web writing. He once got published in Silliman University's Sands and Coral edited by Ian Casocot.

Alex obtained an AS degree in Computer Programming in 2002. He has a background in (not utilized at the moment) Visual Basic, C, C++, Linux/UNIX.

Alex has lived in South Florida for the past 11 years. He also lived in Tennessee and North Carolina the first 3 years of his American life. That makes him a 'foreign' Southerner, y'all.
